Pittsfield native Caissa Hadash’s artistic sensibilities have been nurtured by her mother since childhood. She began her first upscale craft practice in 4th grade by making and gifting jewelry. By age 9 she was constructing pants using a sewing machine. As a teen, Caissa routinely cut up Vogue and W magazines to make maximalist collages to adorn her bedroom.

While she was studying Theatre at Mount Holyoke College, she spent summers working in the costume shop at Shakespeare and Company in Lenox under the tutelage of celebrated costume designer Arthur Oliver.

In 2007, Caissa established the brand Art, Like Bread (ALB) to share her exploration of the world of craft and art. Through the blog, she embraced many opportunities and earned accolades. In 2010, Caissa was named “America’s Next Top Crafter” by Modern Surrealist Marissa Pawelko at the Craft and Hobby Association’s national conference in Chicago. The same year, ALB was named “Best Crochet Blog.” In subsequent years, Caissa was named in “Vogue Knitting” and her scarf pattern was published in “Crochet One Skein Wonders.” She was invited by Art Basel to cover the art shows in Basel and Miami Beach in 2017.

In 2020, she joined Berkshire Art Center’s online collage club and learned collage technique from its leaders while making lifelong friends. In 2021, she and collage club friend, Darlene Sardinsky, formed “The 97 Collage Project” and began to lead collage club themselves!

Caissa is open and happy to be living life artfully. She remains connected to her beloved Berkshires virtually while living in Jupiter, FL.
