Rie grew up in Ōita, Japan. After having lived in many different places from Tokyo to the Adirondacks, it was in New York City that Rie decided to create pottery herself, and there she discovered a Japanese pottery studio. From a young age, she was mesmerized by potters throwing on the wheel and the magic that ensured from their fingertips. She started practicing hand-building first then moved onto practicing wheel throwing.
Today, she makes wheel thrown & hand built tableware and home décor items using stoneware and porcelain. She lives and creates at her home in the Southern Berkshires, Massachusetts and joins wood firing a couple times a year in the nearby Hilltowns.
