Artist Talk: Pops Peterson, The Making of a Protest Artist

  • IS183 Art School of the Berkshires 13 Willard Hill Road Stockbridge, MA, 01262 United States (map)

Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 6–7:15pm, via Zoom (link will be emailed prior to the event)

“Protest Artist” is a label often pinned to outspoken artists through history. But what constitutes protest art? Who are the artists who have worn the title? And what conditions drive these artists to speak truth to power through their paintings, novels and songs?

Pops Peterson explores these questions in his riveting multimedia presentation, “The Making of a Protest Artist.” Peterson will examine the reasons why select historic artists were prompted to devote their work to activism and, in the second part of his speech, will discuss his own personal journey from landscape and portrait painting to activist art.

Nationally known for his award-winning painting series, “Reinventing Rockwell,” currently on view at the Norman Rockwell Museum, Pops has been featured in such media outlets as CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe.
