(World Collage Day 2024) Why Making Matters: Artist Talk With Suzi Banks Baum
Saturday, May 11th, 6:15-7:15pm
Online via Zoom
Collage is one way of finding a path through the confusing world of being human. Interdisciplinary artist and writer Suzi Banks Baum puzzles through joy, motherhood, connection, and motivation on the page in a variety of ways that provide a container to hold the bigger questions about life in a swiftly shifting world.
Some things Suzi will address in her Artist Talk: What is it about Suzi that has motivated her to the life of a maker? How collage is immediate and conversational with the world when you use materials that are common. How collage gives her interior life a context, allows the disparate to be adjacent, and lets discomfort/pain/curiosity/inquiry/experimentation to be expressed in image so that a new conversation can sprout. Suzi cares deeply about the lives of women. Much of her artwork, her activism, and her writing is about being a woman, advocating for women, and exploring the forces that shape us.
Participants will get a sense of how art makes a difference in their life and why beauty matters.
