The Brothership Building Window curated by Berkshire Art Center (formerly IS183 Art School of the Berkshires) will feature Snapshots by Rachel Kaufmann for the month of Janaury.

Artist Statement: The past year of my life has been an unexpected whirlwind of events.  I had stopped making art, but the events brought me back to it.  These paintings capture moments in time from the past year and the inner and outer lives of the models I have painted.  Techniques I use range from observation, to working from a photograph, to collaged drawings and sketches.  Moments I capture include connections between people and the way that I felt as I moved through time and space.  While painting the model, I focused on what I can gauge about them and their emotions through facial expressions, body language and color.  This work was created without the vision that it would be a cohesive body of work, but rather came together on its own through thinking with my hands.

Opening Reception: The artist will have an opening on Friday, January 13th, from 6:15-7:15pm in the lobby of the Brothership Building at 141 North Street, Pittsfield.
