Xerox lithography (or paper lithography) is the process of stabilizing a photocopy with gum arabic to create a plate. This allows for a lot of versatility in regards to imagery, as you can simply reproduce a favorite drawing or photograph without the hassle of treating a limestone block or creating film positives for photolithographic plates. After a specific inking regimen we are able to create a print that can be anything from a grainy, distressed rendering of our image to a direct reproduction. This all comes down to preference and finesse!

CLASS MATERIALS

A materials fee has been included in the cost of tuition and all materials will be provided to you. Students are asked to please bring in at least five 8x10 (or smaller) images of their choice. Must be black and white, preferably high contrast, and MUST be a laser print or photocopy (xerox toner).

ACCESSIBILITY

NOTE: This class will be held in Berkshire Art Center’s 3D Studio at Citizens’ Hall, Stockbridge. Our 3D Studio is located on the second floor of the building so stair use is required. In addition, restrooms are located on the basement level of our building so stair use is also required.

For all classes held at Citizens’ Hall in Stockbridge, please note our historic building has narrow doorways and is not equipped with an elevator. Our bathrooms, ceramics studio, and 3D studio are accessible via stairs only. We welcome and make every effort to accommodate learners of all styles and abilities.
