Announcing Artist Talks & Exhibitions for Berkshire Artist Residency Program 2022
Berkshire Art Center’s 2022 Artists-In-Residence, Natalie Tyler and Jody King Camarra, are celebrating the end of their residencies this summer with artist talks and exhibition openings at Chesterwood and The Red Lion Inn.
Chesterwood Artist-In-Residence, Natalie Tyler, will have an opening reception of her exhibition, “FIRE & ICE”, on Friday, September 2nd, with an in-person artist talk from 5 to 7 p.m. While in residency at Chesterwood, Tyler has been creating outdoor sculptures inspired by the natural landscape and grounds of the site. Through exploring the fragile and forceful elements of nature, Tyler’s most recent large-scale sculptures, “Thaw” and “WildFire”, are about the effects of climate change on the environment, symbolizing the elements of fire, air, earth and water. Tyler’s work will be on display at Chesterwood through October 24th, 2022.
The Red Lion Inn Artist-In-Residence, Jody King Camarra, will have an opening reception of her exhibition on Saturday, September 10th, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a virtual artist talk on Zoom happening Friday, September 16th, from 6 to 7 p.m. As a local teaching artist from the Berkshires, King Camarra’s work focuses on mixed media and collage. Through the collages King Camarra created during her residency at The Red Lion, inspiration can be found from the wallpapers, employees and guests visiting the site. King Camarra’s work will be on display at The Red Lion Inn through January 15th, 2023.
The heart of the Berkshire Artist Residency is to give local visual artists the opportunity to create new work inspired by their home county. The tailored program gives visual artists exclusive access to world class cultural facilities and historic landmarks to develop new work that intertwines with the fabric of our county. The Berkshire Artist Residency is supported in part by grants from the Lee Bank Foundation and the Stockbridge Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
