Learn to grow your formal and textural catalog of ideas through the use of textured wood blocks, a heat gun, and freehand altering. By pressing patterns into freshly thrown walls, we will push the margins of what is possible with basic tools and found objects. The ideas of softness, motion, and fluidity are all mainstays for this technique. Students should be able to throw a 6-8" cylinder without much difficulty. Some beginners who have many of the basics of wheel throwing could enjoy this class as well.

(In the event that BAC has to cancel a class session due to weather or facility emergencies, please note the pre-scheduled makeup date for this course will be Saturday, March 16. More information on our policies for cancellations can be found HERE.)

CLASS MATERIALS

  • Students registering for this class must purchase the Ceramics Class Materials Fee including clay, glazing, and firing. If you have leftover clay purchased from BAC in the last year, the clay purchase requirement can be waived. Per the instructor's recommendation, students registering for this class should purchase the “95400 White Clay” option.

  • Special materials note from the instructor: Please bring found object wood blocks. They must be unsealed/unfinished. An array of sizes is good - from 2-3" to longer 12" pieces of old flooring, 2x4 chunks, old wooden handles - anything with fun texture on it and a good edge.

Ceramics Class Materials
from $30.00

There is a materials/firing fee is for every 25 lbs (sleeve) of clay used. This fee goes towards glaze materials and firing costs (fuel, electricity, etc). Choose from white, red, porcelain or reclaimed (mix of camp and white) clay. More clay can be purchased if needed.

Due to the rise in cost from the supplier, Berkshire Art Center has raised the price of clay as of 9/21/2023.

NOTE: White Clay will be back in stock on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024.
