Join artist Michael Rousseau to experience the grounds and historic architecture of the Hancock Shaker Village through charcoal. In this workshop we will focus on the architectural drawing of the Brick Dwelling, built in 1830. The dwelling's architecture contains unique and efficient design elements such as “sliding cupboards” and “borrowed light” windows placed on interior walls and ceilings to distribute sunlight and fresh air throughout the large structure. Learn charcoal drawing techniques as you explore its features through art surrounded by this idyllic Shaker landscape.

If not purchasing a Charcoal Drawing Kit, Suggested Materials are as follows:

• 1 compressed charcoal 1 2B charcoal pencil

• 1 6B charcoal pencil

• 1 white General's pencil

• 1 kneaded eraser

• Paper towel

• Sketchbook or sketch paper (recommended Strathmore sketch paper, 9"x12"

• Optional: Newsprint or paper to test techniques with
