Collage is a great process for visual thinking! Learn to create a collage portrait or collage an "imaginary being" using a wide variety of techniques with magazine imagery Notice how your eyes help you imagine and think during this time in our lives when we are more limited in all the things we can do because of COVID-19 precautions. Enjoy the experience of creating in community..
In collage art there is a long tradition of making figures and faces that are a composite of many little unrelated parts. Explore and have fun making altered faces and whacky self-portraits. Play around with positive and negative space figures or cut-and-paste character creation. At the end of class we will share our creations to see how our world has expanded with our collage characters!
Materials
card stock or any 8.5 x 11” or 9 x 12” paper to serve as the base (substrate) for the collage
scissors
glue stick
magazines with a variety of images (people, animals, fish, landscapes, textures and patterns)
anything from your collage stash that you like to use
