Monday, July 13 — T-Shirt Sponge Painting

Using tape and paint, create your own unique t-shirt design for some wearable wonderful art! Imagine shapes, stripes, letters, and more — the possibilities include anything you can imagine!

Materials: light colored/white cotton t-shirt or tank, acrylic paint, masking tape or blue painters tape, a few sponges (cut in half), paintbrushes, water and mixing cups/containers (old yogurt cups work great!)

Tuesday, July 14 — Artful Treasure Boxes

Using collage and paint, we will turn an ordinary box into a work of art!

Materials: a box (wood or cardboard, shoe box, small packing box, teabag box, etc.) collage paper (any kid of paper, picture from a book, magazine, wrapping paper, old cards, or print some pictures you like!), glue stick or any kind of liquid glue, paint, brushes, mixing containers (old yogurt cups work great!), optional: mod podge (for a finishing coat)

Wednesday, July 15 — Spoon Puppets

Create an easy to use and creative puppet! Make a few and put on a show!

Materials: wooden spoon (or other type of spoon or any similar object for your puppet's body!), markers, yarn, fabric or felt, popsicle sticks, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, buttons, ribbon, tacky glue or a low temp glue gun

Thursday, July 16 — Beautify a Bottle

Beautify a bottle! Make a vase for flowers, or just a free standing work of art!

Materials: any jar or bottle, colored tissue paper, collage paper (not too thick: magazine paperers, printed pics on regular paper, colored paper from scrap mail), sequins, jewels, buttons, pompoms, ribbon, yarn, white glue, tacky glue or low temp hot glue, paintbrush, mixing cup and water container (old yogurt cups work great!), optional: mod podge (for a finishing coat)

Friday, July 17 — Nature Silhouette Printing

Let's create a decorative nature design on our shirts, including leaves, feathers, and or sticks! Blend in with the woods when you wear your nature t-shirt!

Materials: light colored/white cotton tank or t-shirt, acrylic paints, small spray bottles (one for each color of paint you want to use) or sponges, fresh leaves, feathers, sticks, shells, flowers, etc. Anything you find in nature!

Online Classes at IS183

Though IS183 Art School has temporarily closed its doors due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, we are committed to our mission to provide hands-on art-making opportunities, keeping creativity alive during this challenging time. Our new Online Art series offers digital opportunities to work with talented IS183 Faculty Artists, bringing the studio experience to you!

Tuition

To make these classes as accessible as possible to everyone, we are offering each class with the option to select how much you want to pay. No matter which option you choose, you'll join the same class as everyone else. We trust that you will support IS183 with whatever you can afford, and encourage you to support the school with an additional donation during this challenging time, if possible.

How It Works

Register for a class (or series) on our website, and we will email you a Zoom meeting link along with instructions. Simply use the link to join the online class at the designated time! Download the Zoom app on your smartphone or tablet, or use your laptop/desktop web browser. The web browser client will download automatically when you join your first Zoom meeting. (Have a look at this Zoom overview.)

You will join a live, interactive lesson presented in real-time by an IS183 Faculty Artist. Small class sizes will allow you to engage personally with the instructor and other students, just like in the studio! Faculty lessons will primarily be demonstration-based, but may have segments in which students are challenged to work on independent assignments. Each class and faculty approach will be unique!

Thank you for continuing to make art and support IS183 Art School! We look forward to seeing you in the (virtual) studios!

Please see our policies on cancellations, refunds, and more.
