Learn the history and process of the ancient technique of Lost Wax Casting! Gain knowledge of basic designing and wax sculpting skills as you make your own textured band out of wax. Get creative in what you use either as a reference for your texture or a direct transfer. Then, sketch out your design and learn the carving tools. Tools we'll work with include, but aren't limited to, the x-acto knife, sandpaper, dental tool and flame. Instructor Victoria Fiorini will cast your ring in your choice of sterling silver or bronze, polish it and mail you back the finished product in your choice of finishes. Please find your ring size using a piece of paper or string and ruler (see sizing chart). Materials Kit required ($65). Please add to your cart when registering.

Kits must be purchased at least one week in advance to be received by the workshop date. Students will receive their materials kit sent directly from the instructor to the mailing address provided at registration. Please ensure accuracy when entering your address. Additional "nice to have" though not required, materials include a ruler, any stainless steel clay or ceramic sculpting tools, and/or drawing compass.

Online Classes at IS183
Register for a class (or series) on our website, and we will email you a Zoom meeting link along with instructions. Simply use the link to join the online class at the designated time! Download the Zoom app on your smartphone or tablet, or use your laptop/desktop web browser. The web browser client will download automatically when you join your first Zoom meeting. (Have a look at this Zoom overview.)
You will join a live, interactive lesson presented in real-time by an IS183 Faculty Artist. Small class sizes will allow you to engage personally with the instructor and other students, just like in the studio! Faculty lessons will primarily be demonstration-based, but may have segments in which students are challenged to work on independent assignments. Each class and faculty approach will be unique!
Thank you for continuing to make art and support IS183 Art School! We look forward to seeing you in the (virtual) studios!
