In this course, you will learn how to make templates for hand building with clay slabs. Starting with cylindrical cups, we will create templates from materials like tar paper, tyvek or card stock that give hand built pots interesting angles and curves. Furthermore, you can create templates for square or rectangular shapes with lids and feet, like jars and butter dishes. Another exciting way to use templates is for decorating work. Once the individual pieces are completed, the class will end with glazing participants’ projects.

(In the event that BAC has to cancel a class session due to weather or facility emergencies, please note students will be notified via email and polled on a make-up date. More information on our policies for cancellations can be found HERE.)

CLASS MATERIALS

  • Students registering for this class must purchase the Ceramics Class Materials Fee including clay, glazing, and firing. If you have leftover clay purchased from BAC in the last year, the clay purchase requirement can be waived. Per the instructor's recommendation, students registering for this class should purchase the “95400 White Clay” option.

Ceramics Class Materials

Due to the rise in cost from the supplier, Berkshire Art Center has raised the price of clay as of 9/21/2023.
