This class will go over techniques that enable students to create hollow forms/vessels over 16 inches in any direction. We will focus on different types of coils and when to use them. When scaling up work it's important to know different ways to troubleshoot and how to prevent forms from collapsing.
This class will primarily focus on construction (Monday/Wednesday/Friday, July 19, 21 and 23) and students are encouraged to glaze their work independently during Open Studios (free with class).
Students are invited to a final sharing/reflection meeting on Wednesday, August 18 from 6–6:30pm to view work and engage in a final discussion.
Students will need to purchase a Student Materials Fee including clay, glazing, and firing. Students registering for this class should purchase the “Clay with Grog” option.
There is a materials/firing fee is for every 25 lbs (sleeve) of clay used. This fee goes towards glaze materials and firing costs (fuel, electricity, etc). Choose from white, red, porcelain or reclaimed (mix of camp and white) clay. More clay can be purchased if needed.
Due to the rise in cost from the supplier, Berkshire Art Center has raised the price of clay as of 9/21/2023.
NOTE: Porcelain Clay is currently out of stock as of November 5th, 2024.
