World Collage Day: Collaged Cereal Box Bookmaking

You have some of the best crafting material right in your cupboard! Join this quick and fun workshop to learn how to use paperboard (cereal boxes), glue, magazines/scrap paper, and string to make a simply bound book with many uses! This class will teach you the book making and binding process. You may not finish during the hour. However, instructor Caissa McClinton will provide supplemental online materials if needed. Perfect for collage journaling or establishing a daily practice!
Materials
Glue stick (Elmers or better)
Popsicle stick, bone folder, used gift card, hotel key, or similar (to be used for burnishing)
Cereal box or smaller paperboard box
Scissors
Pencil
Ruler
Magazine/Decorative paper/scrap paper (enough to cover the inside and outside of book)
String (can be anything, like yarn, baker’s twine, or crochet thread). I used size 3 crochet thread. You need at least 10–20 yards or so.
Optional: wet glue (Aleene’s or similar)
Optional: Washi tape

In order to receive your kit or image booklet in time for this workshop, the deadline for purchase is Monday, April 26. Kits purchased after this date are not guaranteed to arrive by the workshop date.

Online Classes at IS183
Register for a class (or series) on our website, and we will email you a Zoom meeting link along with instructions. Simply use the link to join the online class at the designated time! Download the Zoom app on your smartphone or tablet, or use your laptop/desktop web browser. The web browser client will download automatically when you join your first Zoom meeting. You will join a live, interactive lesson presented in real-time by an IS183 Faculty Artist. Small class sizes will allow you to engage personally with the instructor and other students, just like in the studio! Faculty lessons will primarily be demonstration-based, but may have segments in which students are challenged to work on independent assignments. Each class and faculty approach will be unique!
