Learn to paint your own landscape in sumie! Chalice Mitchell lived in Japan for eight years where she studied traditional ink painting and exhibited in Tokyo, Kumamoto, Amakusa, and Tokushima. In this course, she distills that experience to create a step-by-step beginners’ progression that makes ink accessible. She will cover preparing the materials, mixing the ink, laying out the composition, and the basic brush strokes by teaching how to paint rocks, trees, distant mountains, waterfalls, and imply clouds, lakes, and seas.

Note: This workshop will include a 30 minute lunch break at 12:30pm. Please be sure to bring food, as Berkshire Art Center is not closely located near anywhere to purchase lunch.

(In the event that BAC has to cancel class due to weather or facility emergencies, please note the pre-scheduled makeup date for this workshop will be Sunday, October 9. BAC will prorate students for any classes missed due religious observation and high holidays on which classes are scheduled. More information on our policies for cancellations can be found HERE.)

Each student (age 14+) is required to have a current Proof of Vaccination Form on file with BAC. Please fill out and submit a form prior to the first day of your class.
