It’s easy to go to a museum to see works of expertly framed fine art pieces by renowned, classical artists. But as an art lover, you learn that art is everywhere and it can come from anyone. Let’s take a look at the art that has been historically rejected by fine art institutions, the artists that abandon formal “painterly” techniques, and instead embrace instinct, impulse, and fantasy. The Art Brut movement was originally founded by Jeann Dubuffet, who incorporated unexpected materials like sand, tar, and straw into his pieces. He, like other outsider artists, embraced primitive and experimental techniques, thought to be a more “authentic” approach to art-making, often expressing unconventional ideas and showing elaborate imaginary worlds. Enter into the world of these non-traditional art makers and be inspired to build a world of your own! Using raw materials for building and mark-making, and with open-ended prompts to inspire your creativity, campers will build their own visionary environments and create artwork inspired by these unique artists.

Each camper is required to have a current Health and Emergency Contact Form on file with Berkshire Art Center (BAC). Please fill out this form for each child that will be attending a BAC program. Closer to the start of camp, you will receive an email with our Camp Handbook and additional COVID-19 Safety information.
