Drawing the Figure with Charcoal — July 8
Drawing the Figure with Charcoal — July 8
Instructor: Lucy MacGillis
Day & Time: Saturday, 10:00am-4:30pm
Class Date: July 8, 2023
Location: Citizens' Hall, Stockbridge
Materials List: See class description.
Working directly from the nude figure, we will study the proportions, negative space and form in order to create dynamic drawings and push our observational skills. Using charcoal will allow us to remove marks and make several tries until we feel our figure's presence and weight on the paper. We'll also be looking intermittently at Renaissance drawings to help us consider the abstract planes that constitute the human body as well as the historical context of figure drawing. Lucy MacGillis will also demonstrate how she makes her own charcoal using olive tree twigs.
Note: This workshop will include a 30 minute lunch break at 12:30pm. Please be sure to bring food, as Berkshire Art Center is not closely located near anywhere to purchase lunch.
(In the event that BAC has to cancel a class session due to weather or facility emergencies, please note the pre-scheduled makeup date for this workshop will be Saturday, July 15. More information on our policies for cancellations can be found HERE.)
Beginning January 2023, proof of vaccination is no longer required for this class. Masks will continue to be optional, but encouraged for this class. Please review updated COVID Safety Plan HERE.
