An Evening of Collage Tricks and Stories with Danny O (Online Gathering)
Instructor: Danny O
Day & Time: Saturday, 4pm into the evening!
Date: May 9, 2020
This class is part of our World Collage Day Celebration!
This is just one of the online collage classes we’re offering throughout the day on Saturday, May 9 as part of our World Collage Day Celebration!
Join artist Danny O for a community collage party! Drop in anytime (starting at 4pm) to enter a virtual open studio session and artist get-together from wherever you are. Throughout the evening, Danny will share some of his best kept "secret tricks" to take your collage skills to the next level, as well as incredible and wacky stories, the history of his artistic background and life, work from his personal collection and current projects, and lots more in this communal creative space.
Schedule for the Evening
4–6pm: Welcome/Family Time
The event will start with an intro from Danny O, beginner tips and techniques, collage prompts and projects (perfect for the beginner artist and children of all ages!), and some family-friendly stories and artful inspiration.
6–8pm: Dinner Chat and Q&A
Grab some food and engage in creative discussion over a shared meal. Come together to the "table" to hear the history Danny O's career and life, his time in (and out) of the Navy, and how his astounding ball collection, exhibited at MASS MoCA as a mosaic-style floor installation, got recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Danny will then open the floor to lead a Q & A session.
8pm and on: Community Open Studio and Creative Time
Settle in for some freeform open studio time, chat with other artists, and work on your own projects. Danny will share more advanced collage processes and techniques, explain his methods in-depth, and tell stories into the night! Pop in and out to fit your schedule or get comfy and stay as long as you can.
About Danny O
Daniel "Danny O" O'Connor's vibrant art is built upon inventive imagination. An instinctive recycler, he creates collage art using a range of mediums, from colorful magazine paper to subtle and sophisticated Scotch Tape drawings. Vintage album covers serve as his modern canvas, adding further depth and meaning to each collage.
Danny's prolific creative output is as passionate as his love of life and family. His work reflects a sense of beauty in everyday life, both past and present, urban and pastoral. Danny captures the attention and hearts of many with his original and distinctive style. Originals, limited-edition lithographs and giclee prints are in private collections and institutions around the globe.

Online Classes at IS183
Though IS183 Art School has temporarily closed its doors due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, we are committed to our mission to provide hands-on art-making opportunities, keeping creativity alive during this challenging time. Our new Spring Into Online Art series offers digital opportunities to work with talented IS183 Faculty Artists, bringing the studio experience to you!
Tuition
To make these classes as accessible as possible to everyone, we are offering each class with the option to select how much you want to pay. No matter which option you choose, you'll join the same class as everyone else. We trust that you will support IS183 with whatever you can afford, and encourage you to support the school with an additional donation during this challenging time, if possible.
How it Works
Register for a class (or series) on our website, and we will email you a Zoom meeting link along with instructions. Simply use the link to join the online class at the designated time! Download the Zoom app on your smartphone or tablet, or use your laptop/desktop web browser. The web browser client will download automatically when you join your first Zoom meeting. (Have a look at this Zoom overview.)
You will join a live, interactive lesson presented in real-time by an IS183 Faculty Artist. Small class sizes will allow you to engage personally with the instructor and other students, just like in the studio! Faculty lessons will primarily be demonstration-based, but may have segments in which students are challenged to work on independent assignments. Each class and faculty approach will be unique!
Thank you for continuing to make art and support IS183 Art School! We look forward to seeing you in the (virtual) studios!
